Palmerston North Speedway

Placemakers Superstock Series

Round1 25-10-09
Another great night of stockcar action at palmerston north, with the first round of the placemakers superstock series getting under way.

I won't go into to much detail as the palmy web site www.pnspeedway.co.nz has a very good write on the racing there but what i will say is it was hard and fast racing in the first two heats and as for the third heat it was lucky 57p Dave Tarrant didn't roll over as his car did get high but didn't roll.

As for the stockcars it was bash and crash for all  of the races, good to see new guys still tuning up and as long as they stay away from the "RON(99p)and PETER(3nzp) SHOW"they should be right.for me its good to have a stirrer out there(99p) cause you can't wait for the next race to start

thats all for now till next time WAL

WOODFORD GLEN CANTERBURY STOCKCAR CHAMPS 24 -10-2009

The second meeting at Woodford Glen this season was for the Canterbury Stockcar Championship. Superstocks were given the weekend off so all eyes were on the Stockcar class to produce the action.

There were 25 cars in attendance including 2 visitors from Dunedin along with defending champ 4C Steven Bishop however there was no 44C Peter Ross who had other commitments.

Heat 1 saw 29C Murray Gregg lead the race from start to finish with all the action going on around him with 5C Craig Tobin nailing 107C Colin Cameron hard in turn 4. A couple of laps later 81C Blaine Blyth hit 14C Greg Nortman also in turn 4 with Nortman ending up across Blyth and with the momentum of the hit Blyth got underneath Nortman and rolled him. The hits kept coming with Cameron then hammering 87C hard into the front straight wall by the start/finish line ending his race. Gregg took the win from 4C Steven Bishop and 17C Vaughan Fairburn.

The hits got harder in heat 2 with another rollover which saw Cameron and 23C Reece Ward take 28C Craig Hughes hard into the turn 1 wall with Hughes’ car facing the wrong way it tipped and with the momentum of the hit this resulted in Ward also being tipped on his side. 61C Corey Abernathy was dishing out hits to whoever got in his way and by the end of the race there were a few stricken cars on the infield, with race 1 winner Murray Gregg limping home with a flat front right tyre in 9 th while 18C Nick Sidaway took the win and defending champ Steven Bishop home 3 rd to keep his chances alive.

Going into the 3 rd heat and it was 4C Steven Bishop who was leading the points on 51 from 17C Vaughan Fairburn on 49 from 18C Nick Sidaway and 29C Murray Gregg 3 rd on 48 points.

It was all on in the 3 rd heat with Fairburn nailing Bishop on the opening lap in turn 4 with Bishop suffering a flat front right tyre while Gregg was spun and Sidaway was spun then hit hard into the side by an oncoming car. Gregg though, was battling hard to get through the traffic, while Fairburn picked up a flat right rear to add to his woes. Gregg had time to hammer 16C Leon Huddlestone into the turn 2 wall before making it home in 6 th place behind the brothers from Dunedin in Mark and Nathan Taylor who finished first and second. Bishop was able to limp home in last place which saw his finish 4 th but a 6 th place finish was enough for Gregg to take the championship from Fairburn and 21C Greame Reid in third.
