2010-11 Palmerston North stockcar review
What a great year for local stockcars with 70 cars having raced at some stage at palmerston north.almost every week a new car turned up and most nights the car count was 30+ stockcars.
Teams racing this year was a big highlight with the Plamerston north pumas winning the NZ teams champs,Peter Barry teams meet,Palmy teams invasion and winning the Roger Love memorial trophy from wanganui and the Manawatu Steelers winning the huntly teams meet and the Alby Gordge shield at stratford well done guys.
not a bad year for peter rees, droped one place from 1nz to 2nz but had great results with teams racing winning the nz champs with the puma's and manawatu stockcar champ another young driver showing that he can drive, had some motor problems but when car is hooked up it can fly very fast car,is for sale due to brett retiring but kevin large has been driving the car and had it going well another ministock driver moving up a class.ricky has a very good car here and has showen some good pace.was hurt at the manawatu champs so hopefully he will be back scott renwick another young driver who can mix it with the best. gareth edwards, another quick car has raced for the steelers this year. josh prentice, what a year for the defending manawatu champ, raced for the steelers team at huntly and won then was called into the pumas and won the nz teams and peter barry teams meets.at manawatu champs had some bad luck with flat tyres, finshed just out side the top 10 season points tony johnson a regular racer at palmy, good keen driver ikey hautapu another up and down season for the 14p car, when this car is hooked up ikey can have it flying but seems to then get involved in crashes. rob miers started the season strong then broke his ankle, jack miers drove the car at the manawatu champs and got rolled twice.hopefully he will be back next year justin kinane another one of the many young drivers at palmy, drives well but needs more luck shane simpson has come back strong after last season,a very good driver and likes to mix it up a bit, finshed 6th on season points shane ended the season with this new car craig healey is the other car in the "lots of pots" stable and is a very quick car. hamish mcleod did the last 2 meetings after getting this ex wanganui car, have to wait and see how he goes in a full season car was raced a few times by kevin roberts, chris o'hara raced the car at the manawatu stockcar champs allan east still going strong, was in the action a few times this season ken meehan leader of the kb's cowboys stockcar team, brings the car out a few times a season and still nows how to race hard stuart rackham, this could be a driver to watch, the car is quick and strong and with more track time i think we could see a few podiums for this driver gary davis, points champion for the season and pumas member, car is always looking good and fast and in the teams racing always doing the job george frear, another driver to have a broken foot/ankle but when he is racing you can count on the 32p to be near the front brad powell, new car for brad this season, seemed to have some teething problems but is a fast car rob mason, plenty of talent here, winning the teams meet at huntly and the alby gorgde trophy at stratford, some good teams results but other titles seemed to slip by,finshed 7th on season points though adrian billington,2nd season in this car and still doing ok,rumour has it there could be a new car for next season niel coley, just keeps on racin and smiling, was in the action a bit again this time he was picking on peter rees but came off secound best but neil would just get the car ready and back out for another go.always good to chat with neil.one of palmys nice guys graeme munn,if there is one car that has seen some action this year this would be one of them, but to his credit he keeps battling on grant walsh, not seen much of this car this season,is for sale and would be a good buy james baguley, never seem to notice this car but he was 17th on season points, stays out of trouble and gets the job done david prescott, another driver who seems to just have bad luck, car is for sale but i hope we see david back the sister car to the 45p,has had a few drivers this year,i think it needs just one diver all year and we could see good things with this car shaun palmer,i think im right in saying hes a first year driver and has done well, more time behind the wheel and we should see some good results with shaun damian mulcahy, this guy must sponsor more cars than anyone with his "total sheet metals" business, turned up part way through the season with a new car and will be one to watch next season bevan shannon, very well precented car and quick, another one in the wars this season todd o'donnell,he goe's very well in this car and one of the most friendly guys to talk to at palmy,im sure if we saw todd in a newer car he would be hard to stop.car is for sale daniel charlton, what a season for the 56p,had a few meetings where every one seemed to hit him or spin him but he got the car back and going when he could.new car is rumoured to be in the pipe line adrian tipene, only saw this car once this season but still has the best paint job on the bonnett of skulls and flames, would like to see more of this car as i think it could be a winner daniel lockwood, self built car and came out late in the season, once daniel gets to grips with the car it will fly cameron macdonald, another very well presented car and quick aswell, needs more track time and would be realy up with the front runners wayne coley, only came out for the last few meetings but was involved in a very nice wall ride.wayne hopes to have the car to more meetings next season witch will be great. graham peter, another ministock driver making the step up,very good driver who has showen that with more laps under his belt he will be a driver to watch out for.finished in the top 20 on season points alec wilson, one of my favorite drivers as he is always willing to hit,the 17p and 18p cars will tell you that, member of the winning pumas team this year, another driver to finish in the top 20 points chase jared lamb, had agreat debut in the car then got rolled the next race but since then has not looked back and when we see this car next year i exspect to see a few wins from this very good driver, came 3rd in the manawatu stockcar champs nathan harris, another car that needs more track time, bit of a up and down season for nathan tony norman,a real battler here and great guy aswell, only saw the car off and on this season but always great to see the green 72p out there mitchell hill, started the season slowly but finished on fire, came 2nd at the under 23's in stratford and 4th on season points,if this young guy stays with stockcars i think he can be number 1nz gavin taniwha, another driver who has had a great season with teams racing,in the winning steelers team at huntly then got drafted into the pumas and then went on to win the nz teams champs and peter barry teams meet.finished 8th on season points, rumour is there could be a tank on the way,75p was always well precented. cameron renwick, this guy has plenty of talent but seems to get caught up in the action.was looking good at the manawatu champs intill he was stopped. lee norris, another very well prescented car this season, the car is quick and im sure next season we will see what it and the driver can do. thomas huranu,ex44c car only did 2 meetings but next year we should see this car more fast eddie arnold, eddie can either be hot or cold, seemed to have a few car troubles this season but when its going well he is hard to stop, manawatu champs was looking good for him intill the car he rolled earlier got him back. mark cutler, only saw the car for the 1st half of the season, seemed to go alright brett lowe,ex 2k's car that made a few meetings this season, another young guy getting to grips with stockcar racing, hope to see him back next year. william humphries, another ministock driver moving up and has done very well in his first season of stockcars, allways well prescented and finished 5th on season points, another one to watch ex brad powells car that had a skid at palmy before it went with the kb's cowboys team to the south island as reserve car where it ended up getting sold graeme ward, what can you say that has not been said one of palmys best drivers and teams racers,in the steelers for huntly then the pumas reserve driver,2nd at the manawatu champs,a bit down on the points chase but graeme was lending the car out every now and then.i for one hope we see him back as it would not be the same at palmy not seeing the 97p car going into battle ron tye, winning puma team car and just the same ron as ever, hit anything that moves asher rees, drove this car at the manawatu champs(75p)and did very well, one driver to look out for next season and rumoured to have a new car on the way. grant hollyman, only seem a few times this season but always quick zac harris, another ministock driver who loves to hit,was always in the action, got hurt at the manawatu champs so i hope we see him back next year adam joblin,in the ex44p and on the pace strait away, car is for sale but i hope he is back as this is one quick car daniel burmeister, another young guy who car drive well, more track time and he will be even better another car from the ward racin stable, this car had a few drivers and most seemed to hit anything that got in there way,car has been sold neville harrod, long time racer from wellington now in palmy, very good driver and knows when to use the bumper chris knight, hitting is about the only thing chris does, comes down from patea every week to race and was in the action from his 1st race to his last at palmy this season always great to see the 509p drive out the pit gate, steelers team member for the teams race at stratford. jay knight, part 2 of the knight racing team, jay would be the more of the racer of the two but when it is needed he will put any car way,was a member of the winning steelers team at huntly and stratford, was a real pleasure to meet these two this year and there family and i hope they come back next season darrell wallace, another strong season with being 9th in the season points, very quick car and a very good driver, steelers member at the stratford race jordan dare,2nd in the points battle and 1st in the george podjursky memorial meeting in wanganui and 2nd in the stockcar gp and pumas team member, this would have to be a good season for this young driver but i think there are bigger things to come from the 581p car and driver brendon tye, this car is quick and brendon is showing good form in the car but also likes to hit and that does slow him down a bit ernie christison, one of peter rees first cars and still going strong, this car has also had a few drivers over the season but still seems to get along ok jayden ward, drives the graeme ward car as 971p and drives it very well as he finished 10th on the points table.we may see more of jayden in this car next year? taylor lampp, one of the best prescented car at palmy and with a bit more track time this young driver will be up near the top of the rankings. There you have it what a great year at palmy,i know of one car that is not on the list because it didnt race at palmy,so i hope i have not missed anyone and if you think what i have wrote is not right or can add to it please txt me on 0274040183 and i can fix it up.
