70's/8-'s stock Cars

At 50 today i grew up around Bay Park, Paradise and Forest Lake as a kid, my Dad Laurie Mathers build ol Number 3M in 1969 with a Cresta engine and auto box, it had several drivers with Perry Kyte one of the last. The 14p cars were owned and raced by Stan Waldman. I pit crewed for Stan for a couple of years and he gave me the opportunity to drive his cars. The only rule he stipulated was that when a fast car was approaching "you've gotta turn right" so I did.

I was talking to Reg a few year agoAnd he was saying how he would drive his stockcar from Hawera to Straford to race on the back raod there and back. Hence the number plate.

I live in Australia now but I still remember going to the stocks as a kid. the pall mall team was fantastic and Sam was and still is the king in my eyes. hi richard baypark closed down in the mid 90's to make way for house's and forest lakes closed about 1980?.GB borrowed there cars from NZ drivers,frankie waiman had built his own car in the UK and shipped it here about 2years ago

hi richard they had the name change about 3-4 years ago,superstocks can run quickchange diff,dry sump,hossier racing tyre's just to name a few things

Great site, just had a look at the 86 teams video. Man I cant believe they actually got those old flat chassis around the corner let alone got them to go so fast!!!!!! The guys from that era deserve respect for their skill and full on team commitment!!!
