PALMERSTON NORTH SPEEDWAY
5-12-09
PANTHERS vs TIGERS
TEAMS RACE THE NELSON TIGERS VS THE PALMERSTON NORTH PANTHERS WAS THE MAIN EVENT AT THE ROBERTSON HOLDEN SPEEDWAY.
THE TIGERS WARM UP LAPS LOOKED VERY GOOD WITH EACH CAR SHOWING PLENTY OF PACE.WHEN THE PANTHERS WENT OUT THEY DIDN'T LOOK AS SHARP LIKE SOMETHING WAS MISSING?
THE RACE STARTED WELL FOR THE PANTHERS AS 7P ANDY McCABE AND 6P WAYNE HEMI GOT AN EARLY LEAD BUT THEN 7P WENT TO THE INFIELD WITH PROBLEMS 5P PETER REES WAS HIT REAL HARD BY 85N DALE EWERS WHICH LEFT 5P STOPPED FOR ABOUT 3 or 4 LAPS.
IN THE MEAN TIME 8P WAYNE NORRIS WAS BLOCKING THE BEST HE COULD FOR 6P WHO HAD 81N BRENDAN HIGGINS HARD ON HIS TAIL.AS THEY CAME UP TO THE 5P CAR WHO WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TRACK 81N WENT ONE WAY AND 6P WENT THE OTHER .6P BOUNCED OFF THE WALL AND T-BONED THE 81N CAR,BUT ALL THIS DID WAS STOP BOTH CARS FOR THE REST OF THE RACE AND THE TIGERS NOW HAD THE LEAD.
5P GOT GOING AGAIN BUT WAS DAMEGED BAD.8P WAS ALSO DAMEGED AND WAS STILL BLOCKING WHEN THE TANK OF 86N BLAIR CUNNINGHAM CAME UP AND GOT HIM SIDE WAYS AND WITH THE LEFT FRONT TYRE FLAT IT DUG IN AND 8P WAS ROLLED OVER.AND THAT WAS THE END FOR THE PANTHERS.THE TANK WAS PUT TO THE INFIELD FOR NOT BACKING OFF THE ATTACK ON 8P WHEN HE HAD TWO WHEELS OVER THE POLE LINE(I THOUGHT HE WAS HARD DONE BY).
5P CARRIED ON HIS ATTACKS AGAINST THE TWO NELSON CARS THE BEST HE COULD BUT THE CAR WAS IN BAD SHAPE AND THE TEAMS RACE WAS LOST BY THEN.WELL DONE TO THE TIGERS THEY RACED WELL AND DESERVED THE WIN.BUT I'M SURE THE PANTHERS WILL BE BACK TO THERE BEST FOR THE BIG ONE IN FEBRUARY.
AS FOR THE REST OF THE STOCKCAR AND SUPERSTOCK RACING IT WAS A CRACKER WITH PLENTY OF BIFF AND BASH GOING ON,ROLL OVERS,WALLINGS AND A FEW CAR LAUNCHING THEM SELFS OFF OTHER CARS.
ANOTHER GREAT NIGHT AT THE STOCKCARS TILL NEXT TIME SEEYA WAL

WOODFORD GLEN MEETING 6 05-12-2009
The sixth meeting of the season at Woodford Glen saw both the Stockcars and Superstocks on the programme with the Superstocks racing for their Canterbury Championship. Also racing was the return teams race between the Canterbury Crushers and the Tasman Thunder.
The teams race was first up with the teams named as follows:
Canterbury Crushers: Tasman Thunder:
4C Aaron Pemberth 81N Andrew Quy
5C Murray Tapp 82N Brad Hosking
6C Leon Huddlestone 83N Ben Keys
7C Cody Streeter 84N Cliff Henderson
9C Vaughan Fairburn 85N Matt Inwood
8C Colin Cameron 86N Adam Hall
84N Cliff Henderson and 6C Leon Huddlestone sat this race out for their respective teams with Nelson winning pole. Nelson placed 82N Brad Hosking on pole with 5C Murray Tap beside him. From the drop of the green Hosking had his foot on the brakes allowing Tapp to get to the lead briefly before he was pushed aside by 81N Andrew Quy who also lead before he was passed by 83N Ben Keys. Tapp however had chased hard and slammed Keys into the turn 4 wall to take the lead. Meanwhile Inwood was taken into the turn 2 wall by Pemberth who then tagged and spun Keys along the back straight who was chasing Tapp and Cameron who were running 1-2 for the Crushers. Pemberth was then spun in turn 3 and 4, lying stationary across the track when Inwood sought revenge and drove straight into the side of him which forced the red lights to go on to remove Pemberth. At the restart Cameron had snuck infront which he held to the end as the Nelson cars couldn’t work out which Christchurch car was the lead car to take out. Keys chased hard to finish second and Fairburn finished third.
The 30+ Stockcars including the Tasman Thunder cars then put on three of the best Stockcar races seen at the Glen for some time. There was absolute chaos when the green flag fell to commence battle with hits and spins going on all over the track. There were cars into and up the wall with some big hits going in during the third race with 6C Leon Huddlestone nailing 39C Aaron Pemberth into the turn 1 and 2 wall following him in hard and he came off second best. 44C Peter Ross took two wins with 107C Colin Cameron taking the other.
There was a 13 car field in the Superstocks to contest their Canterbury Championship with reigning 1NZ Malcolm Ngatai the favourite to win the title. This looked a formality after the first two heats with Ngatai winning both. After two heats Ngatai was on top with 30 points, 7C Neil Frew was second on 26 and 83C Shane Anderton third with 25 points. Could anyone stop Ngatai? We were about to find out.
From the start Anderton spun 853C Dave Anderson in turn 2 with Ngatai taking off into the lead. Ngatai lapped Anderson, this enabled Anderson to get on the bumper of Ngatai and spin him in turn 4. A few moments later 59C Brad Rosewarne spun Frew in turn 4, but he was able to recover quickly enough to stay in the lead. With more back markers in way, Ngatai tagged Frew on the rear trying to get passed him and ended up against the wall perpendicular to the track in front of the oncoming traffic. This allowed 89C Jason Smith to take up the lead while Ngatai sat parked stationary on the track. Rosewarne then lined up 47C Nigel Keats in turn 3 and nailed him hard into the wall with his brakes gone the hit was a lot harder than expected and Keats had to taken off the track in an ambulance. Smith went on to take the win with Anderton home second and 14C Aaron Rowlands third while Ngatai failed to finish.
When the points were tallied it was Anderton took out the title on 39 points two clear of Rowlands on 37 in second and Frew third a point back on 36.
