Wellington Speedway 10-4-10

Wellington Stockcar champs

Placemakers Superstock Series
It was a very chilly night at wellington speedway for the wellington stockcar champs but the action on the track was hot with 36cars turning up to try and win this title, cars from P.N,Wanganui,Stratford and H.B were in the pits.

Heat 1 and there were cars going in all directions as they all tried to get a good placing.plenty of cars getting spun, walled and pushed around.

The knight brothers from Stratford looked like they were'nt here to flag race as they seemed to hit anything they could.99p Ron Tye was being Ron Tye as he was hitting as many as he could aswell that did not have a P on the side.

In the end it was the familier name of Gaskin that won the race in 22p Richard Gaskin followed by 5p Brett Hyslop and 2nz Scott McIntosh.

Heat 2 and more of the same as cars just keeped on hitting each other.a few championship hopes went west in this heat as 91w and 5p had DNF's anf 52w Paul Fairbrother;s car caught fire in turn 2.

89w Dale Robertson took the win and the points lead going into the final heat but that is were his hopes of winning were dashed as in the 3rd heat he was hit hard by 509s and retired to the infield and 9w Paul Gaskin was rolled out aswell.as the race went more cars droped out,34p Rob Mason who was the best looking visiter for a placing was draged to the infield and his championship gone and this left 22w Richard Gaskin to take the title with 7w Shane Davis 2nd  after winning a run off with 12w Simon Hendry who got 3rd.

all in all it was  very good racing with plenty of action, welldone to all the drivers.

The other racing on the programme was the Placemakers Superstock Series and 20 cars were in the first heat which was great to see but not for 54w Mile Pye as he had coming to with the wall and another car and went over but landed back on his wheels and giving him full credit he caried on in the race.89r Dale Robertson was allso racing in the superstocks had was leading the race till he spun up and 19c Malcolm Ngati took over with about 4 laps to go 74p Mike McCready took over the lead as 19c was taken to the wall by 3nz Murray Long.74p was 1st followed by 95p Darren Gray and 3rd 64p Kev Smith.

heat 2 started with a fire in 74p and his night was done as was 52p Scott Joblin who never came back out from heat 1, not to much action in this race and 72p Simon Joblin took the win from 58p Peter Bengston and 57p Dave Tarrant. After a bit of pushing and shoving in the first few laps it was more of a drag race to the finish and 58p got another win and took the overall points for this round of the series from 95p and 72p was 3rd.

it was great to see so many superstocks at wellington again but one moan i have is the lighting of the track.i counted Four(4) lights that over hang the track to be not going and it made some parts of the track very dark so maybe by the Anzac champs they might have these fixed???besides that it was a good  night of stockcar and superstock racing.

till next time WAL
